One Pair of Lululemon = Two VEIMIA Flare Pants + S$40. That Math Is Hard to Unsee.
There was a time when the “Lululemon dupe” conversation was basically:
“How many cheap leggings can I buy for the price of one premium pair?”
I think there is a better question now.
How many pairs do I actually want to wear — and what am I giving up by spending less?

Let’s start with something the “dupe” internet rarely admits: expensive leggings can be worth it.
If you wear activewear constantly, a pair that fits properly, moves well and survives your weekly rotation can absolutely earn its place in your wardrobe.
That is part of the reason premium activewear became premium activewear.
The problem begins when we quietly turn:
into:
Those are two very different statements.
At regular price, the wardrobe math gets uncomfortable pretty quickly.
Two VEIMIA pairs currently total S$118.
That is still S$40 below the S$158 regular price of one lululemon Groove.
Black + Gray.
Two different outfits — still below one regular-price Groove.
Buying five bad dupes is not smarter than buying one good pair.
This is where I think the old-school “dupe math” gets silly.
If one premium pair costs S$158 and a random cheap pair costs S$20, the goal should not automatically be:
You still have to ask whether the cheaper pair actually solves the same wardrobe problem.
Does it stay high enough?
Does the silhouette work?
Is the fabric built for movement?
Can you wear it outside the gym?
And with flare pants especially: does the cut make your legs look intentional, or just make the hem wider?
VEIMIA isn’t just selling “cheap black yoga pants with a wider hem.”
The product is built around a more specific silhouette:

Official VEIMIA visual: waist control, hip shaping, thigh sculpting and micro-flare proportion.
Does the waist actually do anything?
The current design uses a 12cm high-rise waistband positioned for gentle tummy control and reduced rolling.
Is the flare just decorative?
VEIMIA describes it as a micro-flare cut: closer through the upper leg, then gradually opening below the knee to visually lengthen the lower body.
Is it actually intended for more than one outfit?
The product is positioned for yoga, workouts, commuting and everyday wear, which is exactly where flare leggings become more useful than standard gym tights.
The waistband is probably the first thing I would compare before the logo.

VEIMIA official 12cm high-rise waistband visual.
High-rise is not one universal feeling.
One waistband can feel soft and almost invisible.
Another can feel more deliberately supportive.
VEIMIA is clearly leaning toward the second idea here:
And the rear construction is not pretending to be neutral either.
This is where VEIMIA moves away from the “barely-there” philosophy and toward a more obvious shaping story.
That will not be everyone’s preference.
But if waist, hip and thigh contour are specifically what you want, then comparing only brand names misses the point.
Here is where I would not use the word “identical.”
lululemon Groove uses the brand’s Nulu fabric, with the body currently listed as 81% nylon + 19% Lycra elastane.
VEIMIA lists 80% nylon + 20% spandex.
Yes, the fibre percentages are surprisingly close.
No, that does not mean the fabrics are the same.

VEIMIA official detail showcase: fabric surface, seams and rear construction.
If Nulu itself is the reason you buy lululemon, that is a real reason.
A cheaper pair does not need to pretend otherwise.
The useful comparison isn’t “expensive vs cheap.” It’s “different advantages vs S$99.”
| Question | lululemon Groove | VEIMIA Flare Yoga Pants |
|---|---|---|
| Regular / current listed price | S$158 regular | S$59 current |
| Fabric | 81% Nylon + 19% Lycra Elastane | 80% Nylon + 20% Spandex |
| Fabric story | Signature Nulu; four-way stretch, sweat-wicking, breathable | Elastic, breathable; product page also lists antibacterial and odor-resistant positioning |
| Waist | Super-high rise | 12cm high-rise shaping waistband |
| Flare | Fitted waist-to-knee, flare knee-to-hem | Micro-flare with fitted upper leg |
| Shaping emphasis | Not the main product story | Waist, hip and thigh contour |
| Sizing | Broader US numeric sizing | S / M / L / XL |
| Use | Yoga + casual | Yoga + workout + commute + everyday |
A cheaper alternative is only useful if we talk about what it doesn’t give you too.
VEIMIA does not give you Nulu.
It does not give you lululemon’s broader numeric sizing system.
It does not automatically give you the same compression, surface feel or flare geometry.
And if you already know the Groove fits your body perfectly, that certainty has value.
The point is not that S$59 magically erases every reason someone buys lululemon.
The point is that those reasons now have a very specific price difference attached to them.
This is where the price difference stops being abstract.
At S$59, a second colour does not feel like buying the same expensive product twice.
One Groove at regular price: S$158.
The difference is not only “save S$40.”
It is:
Or do I want two colours that cover more of my actual wardrobe?
Flare yoga pants have one advantage normal leggings don’t: they can stop looking like gym leggings.

That matters because cost-per-wear is not only about how many workouts you do.
It is about how many situations the same pair can realistically survive.
- Yoga or Pilates
- Gym warm-up or lighter training
- Coffee afterwards
- Airport and travel
- Weekend errands
- Casual office styling with a long shirt or blazer

There are two completely reasonable answers.
Buy the lululemon Groove if…
You already know you love Nulu, you want the Groove’s exact silhouette, you benefit from lululemon’s more granular sizing, and the price difference is not important to you.
Look at VEIMIA if…
You mainly want a flattering high-rise flare, you like a more explicit shaping design, you want gym-to-street versatility, or you would rather put the same budget toward more than one colour.
I think we’ve been asking the wrong question.
Instead of:
ask:
If the answer is: Nulu, the precise Groove fit, and lululemon’s sizing system, the premium may make sense.
If the answer is mainly: high waist, flattering hips, longer-looking legs and a flare silhouette…
